About
The How Lovely began as a weekly newsletter on Substack. There I write about the good ‘things’ from the past week. I figure that if I commit to writing (at least) five ‘things’ that have brought me joy, moved me or have just been great, and if, against my usual hermit nature, it’s somewhere where other people can read it, I’m going to have to be spending a lot of time focussing on the good stuff, really it’s a practice of gratitude.
It is my hope, also, that it is an invitation for whoever reads it to do something similar. I also hope that some of the really good ‘things’ I come across might be interesting for readers to explore further as well. So this website is just that, it’s where I invite other people to choose (at least) five things from their week in written form in the ‘Guest Letters’ section, and I have invited photographers to do the same through their imagery in ‘Photo Essays’. You can also find recommendations in the ‘Really Good Things’ Section.
It is my intention that The How Lovely is a place of goodness, comfort and nourishment for the soul.
